Boonara Homestead is a grand old colonial home set in the picturesque undulating landscape of the South Burnett just outside the village of Goomeri in South East Queensland. It was built in 1862 for David Jones, the founder of the Department Store Empire. The home features 14ft high ceilings and 7 inch beaded edge walls constructed of red cedar. Ironbark and Red Gum were also used, obtained from the property and cut up by pitsaws. The saw marks and hand-made nails are still there today. Because the ground was rocky, the building has no stumps but instead it is supported by 3 rows of bed logs. Large red gums. Sitting on top of shorter logs running across underneath them.
